Terms of use

United States · Version 1.0 · October 22, 2026

About these terms

These terms are the agreement between you and [Company name] Ltd, the company that runs Sideline (sidelineapp.com). We're registered in England and Wales (company number [company number]) at [registered office address]. This is the version for the United States.

Please read them before you use Sideline. Our privacy notice explains how we use personal information, and our safeguarding page explains what's public and how to raise a concern.

What Sideline is

Sideline lets grassroots and school teams record scores live and share them with parents and supporters. Scorers use the app on the touchline; supporters follow from a link without signing in.

Who can have an account

You must be 18 or over to have a Sideline account. We ask you to confirm this when you sign up.

Children don't have accounts and can't sign in. A team's adults (coaches, managers, scorers and parents) enter players' first names for them. Supporters can view public pages without an account.

If you run a team or club

If you're an admin of a team, club or school on Sideline, you're responsible for what your team puts on it. In particular, you agree to:

  • have the permission you need (usually from the club or school, and from parents) to add each player
  • keep players' details to what's needed: first names, and nothing more unless it's needed
  • use the safeguarding settings: first names only on public pages for youth teams, and hiding any player whose family asks
  • follow your club's, school's, league's or governing body's safeguarding and data protection rules
  • keep your team's links to people who should have them, and reset a link if it's shared too widely
  • remove people from your team when they no longer help run it

For players' details, the club, school or team that runs the team decides what to record. Our privacy notice explains what that means.

Using Sideline fairly

Please don't:

  • post anything abusive, threatening, discriminatory or sexual, or anything about a child that a parent wouldn't be happy to see
  • add a player's full name, or any other detail about them, to a public page without permission
  • pretend to be someone else, or use a team or club you're not part of
  • try to get into accounts, teams or data that aren't yours, or to break or overload Sideline
  • copy data from Sideline in bulk with automated tools, other than through our public API as documented
  • use Sideline for anything unlawful

We can remove content, and suspend or close an account or team, if these terms are broken or if we need to protect children or other users. Where we can, we'll tell you why first.

Team, match and club links work for anyone who has them, without signing in. They're not listed by search engines, but anyone you share them with can pass them on. Admins can reset a link at any time, and the old one stops working.

Sponsors

Teams and clubs can show a sponsor's name and logo. Sponsors for youth teams can't be gambling, alcohol, vaping or tobacco, or junk food brands. A team counts as a youth team unless its admin marks it as an adult team where every player is 18 or over.

Plans, trials and payments

Every new team gets a free trial of every feature. When it ends, the team keeps all its data and moves to the free plan unless someone chooses a paid plan. We never start charging at the end of a trial without you choosing a paid plan first.

When you choose a paid plan, we show the price, how often you'll pay, and when you'll be charged before you confirm. Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel.

  • Reminders. We email you before each renewal, with the price and how to cancel. For yearly plans we remind you at least 15 days (and no more than 45 days) before you're charged.
  • Cancel easily. You can cancel online in your team's settings, in a few taps, at any time. We don't make you call or email us. Your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for and then stops.
  • Price changes. We tell you at least 30 days before a price goes up, and you can cancel before it applies.
  • Sponsors and vouchers. A sponsor can pay for a team's plan, and voucher codes can add free time. These don't renew unless a paid plan is chosen.
  • Automatic renewal. Before you subscribe, we clearly show that the plan renews automatically, the price, how often you'll be charged, and how to cancel, and we ask for your clear agreement. After you subscribe we email a confirmation with the same details and how to cancel. We follow the automatic renewal laws of the state you live in and the Federal Trade Commission's rules, including cancelling online as easily as you signed up.
  • Refunds. If you cancel within 14 days of first subscribing, we'll refund you. After that, cancelling stops future charges but doesn't refund the current period, unless your state's law says otherwise.

Your content

What you add to Sideline (team details, fixtures, scores, match reports, sponsor logos) stays yours. You give us permission to store it, show it to the people your team's settings allow, and back it up, only so we can run Sideline. That permission ends when you delete it, except for copies in backups, which are overwritten within 35 days.

You can download your own account's data from your account page at any time.

Keeping Sideline running

We aim to keep Sideline available and to fix problems quickly, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. The scorer's app keeps recording without a signal and catches up when the connection returns.

We may change or improve features. If a change takes away something important on a paid plan, we'll tell you in advance and you can cancel for a refund of the unused part.

Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep Sideline running and your data safe, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't give warranties that aren't written in these terms, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it, or $100 if more.

Some states don't allow some of these limits. If you live in one, they apply to you only as far as your state's law allows. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Teams that only you belong to are deleted with it. If you're the only admin of a team others use, you'll be asked to hand it over first.

We may close accounts that break these terms, and accounts or demo teams that have not been used for a long time, after telling you if we can.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the law changes or we add features. Each version has a number and date, and the list of changes is at the bottom of this page. If a change is important (we call it material), we'll ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in.

Law and disputes

If something goes wrong, please contact us first: most problems can be sorted out quickly.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, but if you live in the United States, the consumer protection laws of your state still apply to you, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live. There is no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver in these terms.
