SidelineApp and the host club of the 2019 Hyundai 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships, Royal Akarana Yacht Club, announced a partnership to make SidelineApp the official international broadcaster of the prequel and the pinnacle sailing events in early-December.
The 2019 Oceania Championships was the World Championships warm-up for the three Olympic classes. It served as practice for race officials and sailing teams, and with it being a continental championship it counted towards world ranking points.
The World Championships is the most important regatta for sailors outside of the Olympic Games. For the world’s best it is the measuring stick for how they stack up as a fleet, plus there are at least 15 Olympic qualifying berths on offer among the three fleets. Only 20 teams per fleet make it to the Olympics and many top sailing teams are yet to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
Some of the best-known names competing at the 2019 Hyundai 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships in Auckland included Peter Burling and Blair Tuke (NZL), British 2017 49er world champions Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell, and in the FX class, Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (BRA), Rio 2016 gold medal winners and reigning European and world champions Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz (NED). The Nacra 17 multihull repeated the gold medal standard - Argentina’s hero Santiago Lange and his crew Cecilia Carranza Saroli from the Rio 2016 Games and 49er Olympic gold medallist and SailGP skipper Nathan Outteridge combined with his sister Haylee (AUS) in the foiling multihull.
In total there were 14 gold medallists competing at the world series.
To coincide with our sailing launch, SidelineApp offered free access to our streaming service for the Oceania Championships from November 25-27, before broadcasting the three-pronged World Championships to sailing fans from December 3-8.
SidelineApp’s World Championships package included tracking, 2D and 3D gfx, commentary with analysts and sailing experts, special guests and interviews from the sailing world.
